Request a Shelter Tour

Thank you for your interest in exploring the Humane Society for Southwest Washington! We look forward to providing an interesting and meaningful experience for you and your group.

During your tour, you group will visit both public and non-public areas of our 30,000 square foot facility and will have the opportunity to interact with some of the shelter’s very special residents.

All tours are conducted on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday between the hours of 1pm and 3pm. Tours last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the age and size of the tour group.

Tour groups are limited to a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 15 (including chaperones). Groups larger than 15 individuals will need to schedule separate tours. To help ensure a quality learning environment, we ask that there is 1 adult chaperone per 5 children.

The shelter environment is dynamic and you never know what might happen! Tours may encounter areas with uneven surfaces, slick floors and exposure to animals. Please be sure to notify us in advance if your group requires special accommodations. We are happy to provide them whenever possible, however accommodations are not guaranteed.

Tour participants are likely to come into contact with a variety of live animals including, but not limited to: cats/kittens, dogs/puppies, small mammals, birds and reptiles. Tour participants will be exposed to the usual sights, smells and sounds thereof and will be exposed to a typical 'shelter' or 'kennel environment where dust, hay, pet dander and other possible irritants are present. Individuals with allergies to any or all of the above should not take part in this tour.

The touring agency, and all tour participants including staff and volunteers, are taking part in this tour voluntarily and of their own free will and understand there are possible risks involved. ALL tour participants and the touring agency agree to hold harmless the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW), its staff/volunteers/owners/agents in the event of any illness, injury or death that may occur and/or while on HSSW property. Tour participants may be photographed or videotaped while on HSSW property. If any tour participant cannot or should not be photographed or videotaped, the HSSW will be notified in advance, in writing, by an authorized representative of the touring agency.

Because our tours may be scheduled back to back, we ask you to arrive promptly, allowing for 10-15 minutes at the prior to you tour state time to accommodate for your donation transaction. If your arrival is excessively late and another tour is scheduled, we might have no choice but to reschedule your tour date. While highly unanticipated, our tour guides have the discretion to end a tour at any time should the safety of our animals be at risk, or if any member(s) of the touring group engage in excessively disruptive or otherwise offensive or inappropriate behavior.
