Intake/Admitting Team Lead
Classification:

Job Relationships: Reports to Shelter Manager,
supervises Intake/Admitting Techs and volunteers. Works closely with Animal Care, Adoptions,
and Animal Coordinators
Position Summary:
The
Intake/Admitting Team Lead is a Certified Veterinary Technician who oversees
the daily operation of the shelter Intake and Admitting functions. The Lead plans for and performs hands-on
training of new and existing staff and volunteers. The Lead acts as a liaison for the
department, and provides support for the management team.

Job Duties:
Perform
daily Intake and Admitting duties, including, but not limited to:
Receiving
unwanted and stray animals bought to the shelter by the general public
Completing
necessary computer data entry and paperwork
Examining
and vaccinating all incoming animals according to HSSW protocols
Assisting
pet owners with lost pet searches and redemptions; completing necessary
documents and collecting related fees
Answering
the shelter telephone and providing courteous information
Maintaining
accurate animal records; ensuring that possible owners of stray animals are
contacted in a timely manner
Train
new and existing staff and volunteers to perform their job duties according to
standard operating procedures.
Oversee
and delegate the daily work flow of the staff and volunteers. Report any problems or concerns as soon as is
practical.
Make decisions and solve problems. Assist staff with difficult transactions and
problematic situations.
Maintain sufficient inventory of vaccines, documents and
supplies in the Intake and Admitting areas.
Promote and provide excellent Customer Service to patrons
and donors. Communicate effectively with
co-workers and patrons. Promote
integration and utilization of volunteers.
Assist with hiring, employee evaluations, and disciplinary
actions.
Maintain positive cooperative relationships with
Coordinators and Supervisors to promote a team effort in evaluating and
managing animal flow.
Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work
environment. Take immediate action to address any safety concern or
noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client,
animal, or the organization at risk.
Perform
other duties as required.
Qualifications:
WA
State Certified Veterinary Technician
Minimum
3 years direct Supervisory experience
Demonstrated
ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
Familiarity
with basic Microsoft Office programs and other related software
Must
possess a valid WA or OR drivers license
Must
be Euthanasia and Legend Drug certified, or have the ability to become certified
within 90 days of employment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Able to perform physical work: scrubbing, mopping,
bending, lifting, walking and standing for up to 10 hours a day, lifting up to
50 pounds with assistance
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a
variety of people
Knowledge of animal breed, behavior, and handling
Knowledge of animal health, able to identify
illness
Sincere interest in the mission of HSSW
Ability to prioritize and perform duties
efficiently and effectively with an adequate amount of independence
Job Conditions:
Work
is performed under normal animal shelter conditions. Exposure to high noise levels when in kennel
area. Potential exposure to infectious
organisms, including zoonotic diseases; animal waste; allergens; chemicals; and
potentially vicious animals. Subject to animal bites and scratches while
handling animals of questionable temperament.
Schedule
is based on staffing needs. Must be
willing to work weekends and holidays.

Community Programs Internship
Internship Summary:
Assists with the development, implementation, presentation and evaluation of community programs and activities located both on and off Humane Society grounds. Works in collaboration with shelter staff, volunteers, Humane Advocates and community partners to promote the goals of the Community Programs Department in conjunction with the Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s mission and goals.
~ Supervises, guides, instructs, evaluates and counsels community program participants respective to the education goals and mission of each individual program.
~ Assists in procuring and organizing equipment, materials and supplies for use in community programs while conforming to the approved budget.
~ Interfaces and cooperates with other departments within the organization to provide needed support in all areas of operations.
~ Represents the Humane Society for Southwest Washington at both on-site and off-site community programs and events.
~ Performs other duties as necessary
Internship Requirements:
The Community Programs Internship is an unpaid position and interns are not entitled to vacation, sick or holiday pay and are not eligible for employee benefits. Intern work schedules will be agreed upon between the intern and the Community Programs Director. Interns may be asked to work a varying schedule including some night and weekend work. Interns shall not work more than 30 hours per week.
Daily duties may include:
~ Coordinating, facilitating and implementing community programs both on and off-site.
~ Transporting supplies to and from community events.
~ Staffing community event booths and stations.
~ Coordinating volunteers and volunteer schedules when necessary.
~ Coordinating the transportation of animals for off-site adoption events.
~ Taking photographs to document programs and participants for Humane Society publications.
~ Assisting with various record keeping details associated with the community programs department and services.
Interns must complete the duties listed above in an efficient and diligent manner while representing the Humane Society for Southwest Washington professionally which includes maintaining appropriate attire and a well-groomed appearance at all times. ~ Interfaces and cooperates with other departments within the organization to provide needed support in all areas of operations.
~ Represents the Humane Society for Southwest Washington at both on-site and off-site programs and events
