By The Numbers

It's All About the Animals.

And We've Got the Numbers to Prove it.

Animal Statistics

As a founding member of Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP), HSSW uses the internationally-recognized shelter statistic gathering and reporting methods of the Asilomar Accords. This ensures we use the same language and definitions when reporting on the status of the animals in our care and helps us track our community’s save rate.

At HSSW, we are committed to ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals. As an open-admission shelter, HSSW accepts companion animals regardless of breed, health or behavior. Our staff and volunteers provide support and life-saving rehabilitation for the animals in our care. These efforts make our community one of the safest for pets. HSSW is proud to have a save rate of 93.7% and as a member of ASAP, HSSW contributes to an overall Portland/Vancouver Metro area save rate of 95.2%.

Funding and Financials

Donor support of HSSW is critical in providing care to more than 8,000 animals each year. Together, we are building a community where all living creatures are treated with dignity and respect. Whether a donation of time, money, food and other pet-related items, or donating gently used items to ReTails Thrift Store, HSSW relies on these contributions to provide care to the animals.

Audited Financials and Form 990

We know our donors have options when it comes to charitable giving. The investment and management of these generous contributions is one we take seriously. We invite you to see how we're doing when considering a donation to support our efforts.

Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator is America's premier independent charity evaluation tool and the standard by which the industry and donors alike measure the financial health, accountability, and transparency of America's largest non-profit organizations. Our goal is to provide donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.
