You receive wish lists from your family and friends, but dog and cat paws can’t hold a pencil! We've prepared a holiday wish list on behalf of all the HSSW pets to give you some ideas.
Gifts of cash are the best (and easiest) way to support the animals in our care. Your donation will help HSSW provide shelter and care to more than 8,000 animals each year. Give once or become an HSSW Best Friend with an ongoing monthly donation.
Cash donations are a great way to support the dogs and cats. Your gift makes sure HSSW has the resources necessary to provide the shelter, care and support that the animals need.
Join the loyal group of givers known as Best Friends. You can make a gift this holiday season that gives back every month!
Pet Food and Supplies
If a cash donation doesn't work for you, gifts of food and supplies are a great way to support the animals. Or you can go for the biggest gift and donate your unwanted vehicle to HSSW!
Pet Food and Supplies
You'll be a genuine Santa Claus to the animals in our care when you drop off a donation of dry or canned pet food. What do we need the most? Donations of dry and wet cat food are always appreciated. And if you shop, go local! Visit any of our strategic partners and you'll also be supporting a family-owned business.
Giving Tree Locations
We're excited to have two of our excellent partners hosting giving trees to support the dogs and cats. Stop by to visit and pick a little something special off the tree! They're all on the list of our dogs and cats (who've been especially nice this year).
Amazon Wish List
We know life is busy, and you can't always head out to shop for gifts. Don't worry. You can easily donate through our Amazon Wish List. You'll even find the items marked for our area of greatest need. You gift will ship right to HSSW for the dogs and cats.
Stock and IRA Distribution Gifts
Gifts of Stock and IRA Distribution
Giving stock you’ve held for more than a year can be better than giving cash! You can receive a tax benefit whether you itemize or take the standard deduction. If you itemize and donate stock that has increased in value, you can deduct the value of the stock based on the day it was donated.
IRA gifts are another great way to give this season! If you are over the age of 70 1/2, you’re required to take withdrawals from your retirement account—known as the required minimum distribution (RMD). If you donate your RMD to a charity, like HSSW, you don’t have to pay income tax on what would otherwise be considered taxable income! Other benefits of IRA Charitable Rollover Gifts:
- Minimizes the effect your giving has on your cash flow. The gift is from your assets, not your checkbook.
- Prevents you from being pushed into a higher tax bracket and helps avoid limits on charitable deductions.
More Ways to Give
There are lots of ways to support the dogs and cats. If you haven't found what's right for you yet, consider the following options.
Kuranda Beds for HSSW Pets
We think our pets deserve nothing but the best. So while they're here, they have one of the best beds out there! Kuranda beds are durable, easy to clean, and they last a long time. But they don't last forever. Give an HSSW pet the gift of a comfortable bed this holiday season.
Shop and Donate at ReTails
Every purchase and every donation at ReTails benefits the dogs and cats. Holidays at ReTails means the boutique has transformed to a wonderland of holiday items. Decor, lights, garland, trees, dinnerware and so much more.
As you prep for your holiday season, make sure to donate your unwanted holiday items to ReTails! You'll feel great knowing they'll bring a little extra "merry" to someone's home while making a difference to the animals in our care.
Donate vehicles including cars, trucks and vans; RVs and motorhomes; trailers; motorcycles; boats; and personal watercraft. It's an easy way to turn your unwanted vehicle into an important donation for the dogs and cats.
Bricks and Pavers
A brick or paver is a great way to honor a friend or family member, commemorate a special animal in your life or show your love of all pets! Your brick or paver will be set in the path at our front door - where all the happy dogs and cats leave with their new families.
The CARES Act
With all the things that have come out of a pandemic, the CARES Act is one of the better things.
Created to encourage charitable giving, the CARES Act encourages support of nonprofits during this unprecedented time. Regardless of your income level, and if you itemize, you can reduce your taxable income by up to $300 in addition to your standard deductions. During 2020 (if you itemize), you can donate up to 100% of your adjusted gross income. We always encourage a check in with your financial advisor about your individual situation. We wanted you to be aware of this unique opportunity.
We are always grateful!
