Questions about Fundraising and Registering
Q. I'm having trouble registering myself, my family or my team. What should I do?A. Let us know what you're having trouble with by emailing or calling Kyra at [email protected] or 360-213-2614
Q. Do I have to raise funds to attend Walk/Run?A. No. Your registration fee gives you access to either the walk or the run and the Party in the Park afterward plus a goodie bag, a gift for your dog, and a finisher's medal if you're a runner. We rely on this fundraiser to make more matches and complete more families, but there is no minimum fundraising requirement to attend. Registration fee is required for all walkers and runners - waived for children 12 and under, but we like them to register so we know you are joining us!
Q. I'd like to start a team. How do I do that?A. Awesome! Head over to our registration info page!
Q. I’m having trouble with my fundraising page (creating a fundraising page, joining a team etc.). What should I do?A. If you need a hand, the support staff at CrowdRise can help you edit your page, your team page, signing up for a team, or answer questions about taking donations online. You can find the "contact us" information via your team page. You can also reach out to Kyra at [email protected] or 360-213-2614.
Q. Can I collect donations offline via cash and checks?A. Yes, we welcome you to reach out to friends and family in whatever way is easiest for you. Checks can be made out to Humane Society for Southwest Washington. Learn more about offline donations on our Fundraising info page.
Q. When is the last day to raise money online?A. You can collect donations online up to May 4 at 9 am to be eligible for fundraising prizes. You can collect donations after this time, and we so appreciate it if you do; however, these donations will not be counted toward your prizes. Learn more about prize deadlines on our Prizes page.
Q. When may I pick up my prizes and race bib (for runners)?A. We host Advance Check-In events to reduce lines on the day of the event. You can turn in donations, pick up your race bib (if you’re a runner), and collect your prizes at Advance Check-in. Registration also available!
You may also pick up prizes the morning of Walk/Run but we highly encourage you to do so at Advance Check-in.
Q. Can I register the day of the event?A. Yes, you can register on-site at Walk/Run, or you can register at Advance Check-in (see above). Registration is $55 for walkers and $60 for runners on the day of the event, so you can save by registering early!
Q. Can I register by mail?A. Yes, download the Registration Form and mail it to:Kyra PhelpsHumane Society for Southwest Washington1100 NE 192nd AveVancouver, WA 98684
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE EVENT
Q. What do I need to bring with me to the Walk/Run?A. Great question! Here are a few suggestions:
- Cash and check donations not turned in at Advance Check-in and your Donation Tracker form with your donor information.- Your race bib if you're a runner (if picked up at Advance Check-in).- Cash. We will have several vendors at the Walk from whom you may purchase goodies for you and your pet! Not all vendors will be able to process credit cards so you may want to bring cash. - Six-foot or shorter leash (not an “extend-a-leash”) and dog waste bags if you are bringing your dog.- Your ID. If you're over 21 you can join us for a post walk/run beer in the beer garden with Heathen Brewing!
Q. Where does the path go? A. There are separate paths for the walkers and runners - you can learn more about them on our Walk/Run Basics info page.
Q. Where should I go when I get there?A. If you have not yet registered, or if you have registered and not picked up your bib and prizes (if eligible), head to the Registration at the stage located in the middle of the park. Registration will begin at 7:30 am. If you’re already registered and already checked-in, enjoy the park before we start the run and walk at 9 am.
Q. Can I attend the Walk/Run if I don’t want to bring a pet?A. Everyone is welcome at the Walk/Run for Animals. Plenty of attendees either do not own pets or have pets that stay home. If you’re a cat lover, consider walking in honor of your cat by pinning a photo of your cat to your shirt. For safety reasons, for both you, dogs and cats, we ask that cats stay at home.
Q. What kind of leash can I use?A. All dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Leashes should be no more than six feet in length while on the course. Flexi-leads or “extend-a leashes” are NOT allowed.
Q. What vaccines does my dog need to participate?A. While we don't require you to bring proof of vaccinations, we do request your dog be current with the following:
Distemper/Parvo combo, Bordatella, and RabiesA current license
Q: Can I bring my bike or roller blades? What about my baby stroller?A. Baby strollers are permitted. Bikes, skateboards, roller blades, etc. are prohibited for safety reasons.
Q. What if my dog goes to the bathroom?A. We hope you’ll take Walk/Run as an opportunity to practice responsible pet guardianship and clean up after your pet! We will have some waste bags at the event, but please bring your own as well. Help us model what it means to be a respectful animal lover living amongst others, cleaning up after your pet helps everyone on the course.
