HSSW 2025 Annual Report

2024 was a remarkable year for HSSW. Thanks to our hardworking staff and volunteers and the support of our community, we served more pets than ever – helping thousands of animals find loving homes and helping even more remain at home with the families they love.

Our Annual Report is a celebration of the work we accomplished last year. More than just statistics, it tells the story of pets and people who were served by our work and illustrates the impact our work makes throughout Southwest Washington.

You can click to view the 2024 Annual Report here, but we’ve added a few of our favorites below.

In 2024…

  • 4,230 pets were adopted at HSSW – a 10% increase from 2023.
  • 759 lost pets were reunited with their families. Thanks to our incredible staff and volunteers, these pets were safe and cared for while they waited to return home.
  • 107 cats and kittens were received in a single day. These cats were living in a single home in our community. Thanks to our Community Solutions and Cat Teams, they found the care and support they needed.
  • 5,406 spay/neuter procedures were performed at HSSW. These surgeries include not only shelter pets, but also owned pets, making this essential procedure accessible for more families in our community.
  • 548 pets from our unhoused community received care at HSSW Wellness Clinics – a 218% increase from 2023. These clinics provide essential care for pets and helps them stay with the family they love.
  • 1,106 volunteers supported our work, and 287 new volunteers joined our team. Together, they contributed 129,190 hours – that’s the equivalent of nearly $4.5 million in labor costs!
  • 852,724 items were sold at ReTails Thrift Store, providing $1,909,602 in funding for our work with pets and families in our community.
  • And crucially, you’ll notice in our financials that fundraising generates 67% of our revenue. That means the gifts and financial support from generous donors like you make our work possible. Thank you!

Those are just a few of the many ways your support made a difference last year. And in 2025, we’re on track to reach more pets and families than ever! Click the link below to view the full report for more lifesaving statistics and stories of our work.

As you may recall, 2024 was notable for more than statistics alone. What’s arguably most exciting about last year is the path we charted for a brighter and more humane Southwest Washington. The Acquisition of our Longview Campus and we signed the lease on our future Community Veterinary Clinic in Hazel Dell opening in September of this year, making essential veterinary care accessible to more families in our community.
